Julien Mégroz | percussion

Lucas began playing the drum at the age of nine and accompanied the Charlan Gonseth Orchestra (bal musette) from 1985 to 1988. He then studied percussion at the Conservatoire de La Chaux-de-Fonds until obtaining his diploma. After focusing mainly on classical music at the start of his career, this pure product of the Conservatoire de La Chaux-de-Fonds, thirsting after discovery, explored improvisation, then jazz and composition, contemporary music (percussionist and founder member of the NEC) and the world of “percussion groove”  (Yannick Oppliger Explosive Drums Orchestra).

He is also passionately interested in teaching; in 1995 he founded “La Boîte-à-Frap’!”, a school of percussion and rhythm section with Yannick Oppliger, where he directed percussion ensembles and worked with children, adults and the handicapped, then taught at the Ecole de Musique du Jura Bernois and the Conservatoire de La Chaux-de-Fonds. He also gives further training courses for the Haute Ecole Pédagogique BEJUNE and regularly takes part in school  workshops.  Forming a duo with Gilles Schwab, he plays at training courses and improvisation camps and for five years went on tour with the “Théâtre Circus Junior”, creating and interpreting music of shows. He is also co-author, actor and musician in “L’Enfance de l’Art” and “Un jeu d’enfant”, didactic and interactive shows combining music and theatre in schools.

He founded the Duo “Métal-Urgent” in 2006 with Dominik Alig and regularly plays as a freelance percussionist in groups and projects in French and German-speaking Switzerland.
